Dedicated July 27th, 2002

In Honor Of Dr. Abbie H. Jordan (1925-2019)

Dr. Jordan’s vision, tenacity, and financial contributions were the driving force that ensured the Savannah Riverfront was the home of the first statue in Savannah that honors African Americans.

The description above is the inscription on the monument that sits in front of the Hyatt on River Street. What I love most is the emotional detail in the faces, the sculptress Dorothy Spradley is truly gifted.

Where have you seen beautiful monuments on your travel adventures?
