The Mayor, The Dentist and The Slave

One of my favorite spots is the site that Maynard Jackson rests peacefully. The first African American Mayor of Atlanta sits surrounded by shade,a perfect spot to rehydrate and give thanks for his work and dedication to the community πŸ’•

Dr. Roderick Badger, born a slave and learned the art of dentistry from his master who was also his father. He is credited with opening a dental office as a slave in Atlanta. As a free man of color he built a successful practice and provided dental care for black and also white patients.πŸ’•
